June 2008 Pilgrimage Itinerary

Jerusalem streetEach day will bring new blessings as we seek the Lord in Galilee, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Jericho. Our trip will look something like this:

Day 1: June 10 (Tuesday)

  • Depart from Atlanta.

Day 2: June 11 (Wednesday)

  • Arrive at Ben Gurion International Airport (Tel Aviv). Drive directly to the retreat location in the Galilee and settle in.
  • Evening Orientation and Evening prayer

Day 3: June 12 (Thursday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Walk a trail to the top of the Cliff of Arbel for a panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee. Visible in the distance are the Plain of Gennesaret, Capernaum, Mount of Beatitudes and Tabgha. Descend the trail and drive to Capernaum.
  • Evening Worship

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Mount of Beatitudes, Tabgha (traditional site of the loaves and fishes), and Chapel of the Primacy of Peter (traditional site of Jesus’ appearance to the disciples while they were fishing: “cast your nets on the other side.”)
  • Evening Worship

Day 5: June 14 (Saturday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Boat ride: the Sea of Galilee (if possible, we would like to have a relatively long boat ride, rather than just going across). Then, drive around the southeastern end of the Sea of Galilee (where the Jordan River exits the Sea of Galilee).
  • Evening Worship

Day 6: June 15 (Sunday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Drive through Galilee to Zipori (Sepphoris). Lunch at Nazareth. Return by a different route that offers a better view of Mount Tabor (traditional Mount of Transfiguration).
  • Evening Worship

Day 7: June 16 (Monday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Drive north to Banyas (Caesarea Philippi) and the foothills of Mount Hermon. Along the way, pass Tell el-Qedah. Stop briefly at Hazor and Hazor Museum.
  • Evening Worship

  • Free Day in the Galilee.

Day 9: June 18 (Wednesday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Transfer from Galilee to Jerusalem. Visit Megiddo (NT Armageddon) and Caesarea Maritima.
  • Evening Worship

Day 10: June 19 (Thursday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Begin exploring Jerusalem, starting with a panoramic view of the Old City from the Mount of Olives. Garden of Gethsemane, Via Dolorosa, Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
  • Evening Worship

 

CapernaumDay 11: June 20 (Friday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Continue exploring the Jerusalem. Garden Tomb, Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu, Western Wall.
  • Evening Worship

 

Day 12: June 21 (Saturday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Morning excursion: Bethlehem.
  • Evening Worship

 

Day 13: June 22 (Sunday)

  • Morning Prayer
  • Full day excursion to the Dead Sea (including Masada, Qumran; maybe stop briefly at Ayn Gedi when passing by it…it is very serene and stands in stark contrast to the rest of the area).
  • Evening Worship

 

TabghaDay 14: June 23 (Monday)

  • No scheduled excursion, but some may wish to visit the Rockefeller Museum; closing worship service.

 

Day 15: June 24 (Tuesday)

  • Depart for one-day Follow-up Retreat in Germany
